What are Pros & Cons of Retrofit Windows?

Retrofit windows generally cost less than full replacement windows, offering a more budget-friendly option for cost-conscious homeowners.

Retrofit windows are replacement windows where you do not have to remove the existing wall condition or window opening. Various frame options will help install a window into an existing wall condition. Some co-extruded accessories will jump the existing window frame to preserve the weatherproofing, exterior, and interior finishes. Retrofit windows can save time during installation and money by not opening wall conditions and having to redo finishes.

What are replacement windows?

There are instances where old windows will need to be taken out to fix weatherproofing or water issues that the building could be having which you would typically use replacement windows. Replacement windows refer to windows where the full window frame and sash are replaced. Using replacement windows can include replacing some wall conditions or surrounding finishes depending on the installation accessories.  This could become costly but may be needed in some older buildings.

How to install a new window in an existing wall?

Depending on the wall condition and if exterior or interior finishes are being replaced will determine if you can use a retrofit or replacement window on a project. We have many custom window accessories that we have used in a variety of projects all over the nation. Custom co-extruded accessories can be done per project if we do not have something to fit your needs. Below are some window accessories that we have used in retrofit and replacement instances.

Replacement Window Common Accessories

Due to taking out old window frames during a replacement job, using a window with a simple integral trim for anchoring may be possible.

Here are some other co-extruded frame options based on our different window series.
